Description:

The goal of this initiative is to apply recent advances in biomaterials, tissue engineering, and nanotechnology towards the development of small diameter (less than 5.0 mm inner diameter) functional blood vessels for clinical evaluation. The NHLBI invites applications from investigators interested in developing clinical products for vessel replacement therapy due to cardiovascular disease. This initiative will complement existing programs to apply innovative technologies, tissue engineering and nanofabrication methods, models, and novel biomaterials that overcome barriers toward the development of functional blood vessel substitutes.
